Door bells always run on the voltage which is stepped down. Electrical transformer is present in the wiring system of the doorbell that is able to accept 110 volts and decrease it to about 8v or 24v. You should always keep an eye on the spec plate which is present over the synch motor. This is in order to search the exact voltage which your chime requires. For easy results you can also match the voltage with the transformer you have. You should never test with voltage of 110 power as that can lead to a short circuit resulting to damages. It is quite usual that a chime not having a clock is quite tolerant to the ranges of voltage variation. According to the error tests which I have performed I have substantiated that the range of 8v-24v is able to operate solenoids very easily. But you should never overpower the high ends. The overpowering of high ends immediately causes repeated cycling. NO adjustment can fix this problem .So you should never do these type of mistakes. The ringing volume can be affected by the results of change in high and low voltage. Incase of chimes which possess a clock – considered the clock which is powered by AC. But it is a very critical case .It is very hard to match the transformer rating with the rating of the clock motor .This rating is usually which either 20v or 24v.

The 20v transformers do not seem to be available everywhere- this is the major problem regarding this. It is a very rare case that one has easily been able to find it .But 24v transmitters are available easily and can be purchased from any electronic shop for the chimes. By observing the records it is concluded that for all the 24v volts chimes were regularly utilized possesses 20v motors.

In noticing the problems which arise, there are many questions which many people come up with. These questions are regarding the transformer first. But there are other problems as well which are usually observed. There is every probability that the door bell is not working. The wiring might not be properly done. The connections related to the chime may not be correctly connected. There might be cases where a person does not know the proper system of wiring which is present in the house. In this case proper tests have to be carried on. The testing needs an examining station which will have to consist of a transformer as well as a door bell button, which again has to be wired like a demo version of the pattern of the circuit present in the house. Initially it may give an impression that it consumes a lot of your precious time. But if do it rightly you can save loads of time as well as all of your recurring expenses.

You must always consider a 3-wire circuit while either installing or upgrading the chime which has motorized mechanisms and which is mechanized to ring for more than twice. The simple wires which have two circuit may be adequate for the simple "ding-dong" chimes having two-note but the more complex chimes have to be provided with complex wire system. If you want to increase the gradation of the doorbell of your house like for example- a three note or a five note or a six note then you will have to provide the chime with suitable house bell wirings. Thus you should always keep in mind that each and every different type of chimes needs different types of wiring.
